Moss

Ruggie (Rugosus) Hermit Crab hiding in the moss

This is one of my ruggies eating some moss.

A lot of people ask about using moss in thier tanks. I keep moist moss on the second levels of my tank and all the crabs love it. I can usually find 8-9 crabs hiding in the moss at any given time and I’ve had successful molts in the moss. Not only do they love to hide in it, but they love to eat it too! I currently use ESU Reptile Moss, it’s all natural and holds up well.

Edit for Anthony and others: I use aquatic landings for my second levels, I love them. They are just the right depth to hold moss, shells, huts, and hermies. I never have a problem with the suction cups not sticking to the glass. You can see some pictures of the landings in my tanks in this post http://www.crabbytalk.com/04012005/coral-sand/

I originally purchased the first landing at a small, local pet store, I purchased more of these at petking.net , you can find them on this page of their site.
