Lights and Heating for Hermit Crabs

Rugosus and Cavipe Hermit Crabs - Canon G2

There has been a lot of discussion on the Hermit Crab Association lately about hermit crab crabitat lights and heating. I wanted to point out that I have two articles on the subject:

The Temperature of the Crabitat
Lights and Heating

I hope that these articles will help you to warm your hermit crab tanks since winter is rapidly approaching.

Please remember that it’s very important to have temperature and humidity gauges in your crabitat. Hermit crabs require very specific temperature and humidity, 77-80 range for both, so be sure to get those gauges! The tank feeling wet and warm is not enough and condensation on the glass does not indicate good humidity. The only way to tell if your tank conditions are good is by using gauges. End of hermit crab public service announcement #1.
