Cuttlebone is Great for Crabbies

Rugosus Hermit Crab with Cuttlebone - Canon G2

Cuttlebone is a calcium supplement for birds, but it’s also a great calcium source for hermit crabs. It’s especially important for them to receive a lot of calcium pre and post molting. You can get cuttlebone in the bird section of the pet store, in most supermarkets, and at petdiscounters.com and other online retailers. Some crabbers crush the cuttlebone into a powder and sprinkle it over the crab food. I just throw a chunk of cuttlebone in the tank and let them eat what they want, when they want. Some other good sources of calcium are crushed oyster shell, sand dollars, egg shells, and coral.
