Oreo the Ruggie

Oreo - Rugosus (Ruggie) Hermit Crab - Canon G2

Obviously, I didn’t do too good of a job cleaning the glass when I did a tank cleaning Friday night. I knew if I stopped to wipe down the glass, Oreo would bolt.

Oreo molted back on 2/4. He’s now gorgeous shades of blue.

I’m still facing humidity troubles in my 29 gallon. I finally pulled the jumbo pool out of the tank and put in a smaller, but still big enough for the straws to submerge, pool. Vicki is coming by my house today to pickup a large turtle dock and at the same time she is going to drop off a corner pool for my tank that should be a good size for the crabbies, but it also won’t have to be smack dab over a UTH. I received my tropic aire humidifier for the tank last night, I have it running now. I added T valves from the pump to the air hoses to control the air output to the air stone and the humidifier. My morning air temp is much lower than I would like at 72 degrees. During the day it’s at 78-79. I re-calibrated an analog gauge and I suspect that the digital gauge may be reading about 5% too high, temp seems to be right on the money. If it is off by 5% on the humidity it will be a big relief, I won’t have to worry so much about reducing the humidity in the tank. Uuuuuggggggg, this is just making me insane. Why is it so hard to get the darn tank to 78/78%?

On another note, one of my straws dug down to the bottom of the tank. This has me freaked because recently I’ve been reading about crabs getting “fried” over the UTH on the HCA board. I have never had this happen to me since I started crabbing, but the power of suggestion has done me in. Since I have two UTHs on the tank I unplugged the one under the sand and plugged in the one under the pools/river rock area.

I’m starting to wonder how my 55 gallon hermit crab crew would get along with a jumbo straw named Monster and his four smaller pals.
