Hermit Crab Eye Crust

We were discussing crust on the eyes of a hermit crab pre-molt on the Hermit Crab Association forum. I thought I would share a couple of photos of Lego, my ruggie who recently molted. The first shot is of Lego pre-molt on March 2, 2005 with the eye crust.

Here is a close up of the eyes; notice the brown crust.

Crusty Eyes - Rugosus Hermit Crab

Lego went down for his molt around 3/10 and returned from his molt on 3/29/05. Here is a picture of Lego now (taken today), post-molt.

Lego - Rugosus Hermit Crab Post Molt

Along with the post-molt color change and the fresh hairy legs, you can see the eye crust is gone. You can even see whisps of hair on his eyes. Lego looks like a different crab.
